What is Skipper? Empty What is Skipper?




Well, my entry in yoyogames competition is called Skipper.
The title will be a bit edited, but the character is called Skipper.

I am still working on the plot,
but it is something easier, the player is probably some alien guy,
who travels through worlds to discover his family/planet/home by collecting
spaceship parts/magical objects/information from people who live in these worlds...
It's a very open idea, the plot needs to be worked on allot.

The basic idea is to make a funny game, with incredible 'smooth' gameplay.
This means that it is easy to control, no bugs, and smooth looking sprites and features.

Anyway, it's a simple platformer, which doesn't include fighting, probably
there does exist some simple "beating an enemy", but not in a violent way.

The game should be quite "fun" and "funny" to look at.
I am not planning any blood or something, so it's almost like a childish game, but then just extremely fun.

Right now I made very smooth movement,
wall jumping, variable jumping.
Next to that, I've made my first "obstacle", a simple spear coming
out of the ground, seen in the screen below.

I've also just made some basic dying effect.
So, if you get hit, you got this dying animation, and a small
pause menu shows up, which says: "Restart" and "Menu". You can choose what you want.
Soon, there will come checkpoints, but you can only use the checkpoint for X amount of times.
(probably 2)

The game won't be too hard,
most people don't like "too" hard games.
Though, ending levels will have some challenge.
I am planning detail in the game, and cool effects.
At the moment I got:
- Screen Effects (like in the screens, night overlay)
- View Shake Effect (incredible easy to activate)
- Lightning Effects

Looks quite nice, Kyon. I hope that you end up finishing it. Then you can work on Dirkels again! Very Happy

Two things.

Kyon: This game looks amazing, but I think you need to work on that story. But, you posted that four days ago, and probably have a better idea now.

How about something like a fantasy world, where lots of "skippers" live in tribes. One day, Skipper woke up, and his whole tribe was gone. Now, he has to rescue all of his tribe members from the evil (think Mario vs. Bowser evil (funny-evil, not evil-evil)) shadow creatures that stole his family.

It just seemed to fit to me. If you already have an idea, that's fine.

Why do you think I've been gone so long? I do have other things other than this to do: I just think that Dirkels is a great project for Kyon to work on - I also want him to progress beyond the 2d Game Maker circle square idea, and use the plot for a Unity project, because I've had some ideas that would work for that.
I've missed fighting with you, Mitch...
